We had a total of seven racers: four New Hampshirites and three Massites. We would have had an additional NH racer, but Bruce’s GPS gave up the ghost on him. He ended up on a Fiddlehead Lane in another town, and finally gave up and returned home. Mrs. P was kind enough to provide the food on this race day. I don’t think anyone missed the typical donuts and pizza. The racers were greeted with lemon poppy seed bread, cinnamon roll coffee cake, and coffee. (Tasty) The first race of the day was Super Stock. This was the third time this class has been run at Fiddlehead, so most of the guys knew the set-up. After two hours of practice, we were ready to go. Although some other chassis were tested, in the end everyone ran a Fusion, and an endbell version at that. John knows the way around this track, and took down the win with 380 laps. Jim Mac came in 2nd with 321 laps. Paul and Terry rounded out the top four, with 314 and 311 laps respectively. Tom Gray was 5th with 307, Hal was 6th with 295, and Tom Jahl finished 7th with 287. Lunch was next, consisting of ham and cheese sliders, chips, and veggies. Two hours of Modified practice followed, and then the race. Only Bruce and Hal had run Modified here at Fiddlehead prior (last year), so most of us were trying to figure out the set-up. The high downforce Max track proved a challenge for some, fighting heat and related issues. Everyone survived the race except JP, who consumed four pinions. Tom Jahl claimed the checkered flag with 386 laps. Nice job Tom! Terry finished a close 2nd with 383 laps. Paul was 3rd with 341, Jim Mac 4th with 331, Hal 5th with 318, Tom Gray 6th with 302, and JP 7th with 295 with trouble in three of the four lanes. Thanks to all who came! Our next race will be at Terry’s Ralph Spoilsport Speedway on November 15th. Hope to see you there! JP
