Roctober Racin!
Ashland Massachusetts, October 9, 2021 – Seventeen drivers showed up for the second race of the 2021 – 2022 MARC season. Once again, we were racing at the slot car Mecca of the world, Modelville Hobby/LenJet. This time around we would be racing Super Stock on the Champion, the first H.O. track at LenJet and probably the one that gets the most use due to its popularity and versatility for everything from T-Jet to inline cars. The second race of the day was Modified on the Viper. The Viper is known for hosting some of the fastest racing in the country. Always in use for the HOPRA Nationals, it is long and it is fast. The Modified class was a blast on this track. The cars are a bit slower that CMPM and most of the club enjoys the speed without the cost of custom armatures and tires.
Practice started on the Champion as drivers quickly dialed in their cars on the fastest small track around. Setup is a compromise of going low for grip without skating the chassis on the rails or compromising the downhill hairpin or the hook. Fast laps were in the 2.8 to 3.1 second range. Ryan Archambault kept his winning streak going, taking the top spot followed by John Pileggi, Tom Gray, and Paul Ryer. Cody Pare took the top Sportsman spot, followed by Oh Jimmy, Bruce Olson, and Mike Tiffany.

As usual, Modelville Hobby chieftain Rich Payne was on top of things and made sure pizza arrived to fuel the afternoon of practice and racing. Everybody moved over to the Viper to get setup for Modified. The challenge with the Modified cars is getting the right setup with slip-on tires. Having some experience with the class on this track, drivers pretty much dialed in their cars and were ready for a fast-paced race. Interestingly, the fast laps were in the 2.8 to 3.1 second range like the Champion, but this time a much larger distance was being covered. Ryan swept the day, garnering another top step on the podium. Once again, he was being chased by John Pileggi in second place. Nick Kanan drove to a third-place finish followed by Rob Hayes in fourth. In Sportsman, Cody struggled with pinion and gear issues, but he limped home to a fourth-place finish. Terry Ayer took the top spot, followed by Hal Pierce and Oh Jimmy.
